GIRTON150 FESTIVAL: 28-30 JUNE 2019
Welcome to the peak of the Girton150 Anniversary celebrations: the Girton Festival! A week-end of stimulating events at College that looks at Girton past, present, and future. Full of cultural, artistic, and musical activities!
A week-end for seeing old friends and meeting new ones, full of moments to learn, listen, play, relax, and socialise!
FRIDAY 28 JUNE We will start with an extraordinary opening ceremony presided by the Girton Visitor, Baroness Brenda Hale, President of the UK Supreme Court. After a tasty BBQ, the evening will continue with Jazz and Brass concerts, comedy stand-up, magic and….....there will be dancing till late!
SATURDAY 29 JUNE will be packed full of events. From lectures to round table discussions, academic conversations to poetry readings. It will be an exciting festival of ideas, thinking about the issues at the forefront of today’s debates, in the best Cambridge and Girton tradition! Confirmed speakers include: Lord Rowan Williams, Lord Martin Rees, Dr Philip Hammond, the UK ambassador to the UN, Karen Pierce,…and many more! After a buzzing day of talks, we will relax you with a fine dining experience in the College Hall (or, to a more informal dinner in the Gardens, if you prefer), before rounding off the night with a late late extravaganza!
SUNDAY 30 JUNE will be our family day. Kids of all ages will enjoy Girton as a playground…also for those who are only children inside! Sporting events, music masterclasses, and historic re-enactors will make for a memorable outdoor day, that will end in a spectacular closing ceremony.
