A Great Campaign aims to place Girton on a sustainable financial footing for the first time since its foundation. The College’s endowment is small, so the investment income generated cannot yet cover all aspects needed to deliver Girton’s renowned, world-class education. With a large, vibrant student body that spans almost every subject in the University, Girton’s finances are fully stretched to subsidise every home and EU student by up to 50%.
By growing the endowment, A Great Campaign will underpin Girton’s core educational purpose in perpetuity and enable the College to fulfil its strategic aims: to widen participation, engender excellence and support all round personal development. Girton aims to double the endowment by the end of A Great Campaign – this, together with future legacy pledges, will be transformative for Girton’s next 150 years.
